5 tactics to avoid your blog going stale
Friday, July 4th, 2008Its inevitable that in time a blog is naturally going to lose visitors. Perhaps visitors get sick of your blog, a particular niche, or maybe they feel they have gained all the resources and knowledge your site has to offer and think its time to move on.
Whatever the reason, a webmaster should try to combat this natural loss by replacing lost visitors with new ones. Alternatively to avoid your blog going stale several tactics can be implemented to help keep your loyal visitors, each and everyone of them is worth fighting for!
Top 5 tactics to avoid your blog going stale
#5 Perfect your English
There’s nothing worse than blatant spelling mistakes or bad punctuation on a website or blog. New blogs started by people with English as a second language can be identified immediately by the ‘broken English’ style with which they write their posts. Personally i never last more than one paragraph on these blogs. Many non-European’s have fantastic blogs and the secret to their success lies in their ability to master English grammar.
#4 Get that unique theme
It’s been said time and time again, to stand out you MUST have a unique theme. A template theme will never break you away from the crowd like a unique theme will, remember there are 200 million other blogs out there using the 2 or 3 dozen free wordpress themes!
#3 Engage your visitors
People naturally like to be of use to others, they will share information and advice freely as long they receive a small amount of respect in return, Its amazing how good mowing your grandma’s lawn actually makes you feel because at the end of the day you know she appreciates it and probably cant do it on her own. Encourage input from users wherever possible and you may just keep them on the team.
#2 Do not plagiarize
With so many blogs available in any given niche writing unique content is the key, it’s funny how every post John Chow seems to write is echoed around the web for the next 3 days (except the posts about his dinner!)
If your not going to write with your own brain then why wouldn’t i just read it from the source?
#1 Offer Free things
You might have noticed the amount of contests available on web2.0 blogs these days, the simple truth is they work. It doesn’t have to cost you much, from Entrecard credits to free software, ebooks or small prizes anything will work to retain visitors. Remember to name your contest winners and photos work as proof to the rest of us that your blog can be trusted and its worth returning to in the future.
Im sure these 5 tactics will help your blog avoid the loss of return visitors, of course there is noway to keep people coming back 100% of the time so be sure to supplement any lost users with new traffic and keep your blog constantly growing.
